Disappearance
With the acceleration of global warming the natural scenery is going through dramatical changes. In the project, I studied the term "disappearance", whether it's icebergs disappearing and melting into water or corals underwater that are losing their color and becoming invisible. I studied how we can cope with feelings that arise from our involvement in this process of loss and deterioration of nature.
I created a pavilion, situated in the trianela in Milano that is constructed from a few parts:
1. A skin, built from a smart glass, at the beginning, it is milky and with the positioning of the sun it disappears and becomes clear in the evening.
2. A movement, made from 2 ramps, the first one leading up to the pavilion in a narrow dark passageway. When you reach the top, the changing glass appears and the trianela from another angle of view. The second ramp leads down to an underground seating area built inside a “chasm” giving the feeling of how small person is inside the vast nature and the feeling of how nature gradually disappears. In that area, a few exhibits of icebergs are presented.
